After lots of hubbub and grinding on the rumor mill:

Google's new integrated IM/VOIP/EMail client, Google Talk, is online a few hours early. (Slashdot coverage)Note that in order to use it you must already have a GMail account. Is Google trying to centralize its namespace? Seems like it. I forsee JoeSmith4468893006.

Yeah, I downloaded, saw that I needed a GMail account to use it, and then uninstalled it. Whatever; I've already got an IM client and Skype.

I'm Judd Antin, and this is my blog. I spend most of my time riding the fine edge between social psychology, HCI, and computer-mediated communication. I'm currently a post-doctoral Research Scientist in the Internet Experiences research group at Yahoo! Research. I finished my PhD at UC Berkeley's School of Information (iSchool) in 2010. My research explores how social psychological incentives operate to facilitate or hinder online cooperation.
